Project Magnet - Haematite Export Facility
Project Magnet is an important development for Whyalla and represents OneSteel's first major investment since its spin off from BHP. The project is valued at $325 million and will facilitate the export of haematite to other steel manufactures around the world, particularly Asia.
Manuele Engineers were awarded a contract to supply, fabricate, surface treat, deliver to site, structural steelwork, trusses, conveyor galleries, hoppers and chute work totalling 1000 tonnes.
Much of the steel work required trial assembly on the factory floor prior to dispatch to site to ensure proper fit between large complex weldments.
As depicted in the images below fabricated steelwork was diverse in size, shape and form. Five feeder hoppers weighing in at 20 tonne each were moved though out our facility with ease due to an abundance of adequately sized over head gantry cranes and an underhook loading bay.
This project has been an outstanding success for both Manuele Engineers and our client.
