Frome Street Car Park - Adelaide
This car park was in fact Australia’s first eccentrically braced structure. It was made of 553 tonne of structural steelwork. The site is located in the heart of the Adelaide CBD and completely filled the property, boundary to boundary. Access for all activity on site including deliveries and cranage was from one narrow driveway off of busy Frome Road.
The structure was erected as four pods. First the northern end then the southern end, and finally the two ends were joined with the western and eastern pods. We worked our way out via that narrow driveway.
As construction was undertaken at opposite ends, fit was critical. Much of the steel work was trial assembled on the factory floor to ensure the ends came together in the middle.
